SRISTI MOBILE THERAPY

Corona Virus has been spreading in India rapidly and the main aim to alleviate the spread of the virus has left a large number of people with no other choice but to suffer. It has become an ordeal for persons with disabilities. Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, during relief work we sristi identified many people with disabilities especially children with disabilities and their families are facing challenges to fulfill their basic needs.

The Sristi Mobile Therapy Project was created as a response to a covid-19 disability survey conducted in Mailam Block, Villupuram District. The survey identified that by screening 2,229 children and identified 155 children in 88 villages 47 panchayats children with special needs below 18 years in the local area who are not receiving adequate support. Of this number there are many children whose disabilities are so severe that they are unable to attend school or even leave their homes. There are currently 100 children actively benefitting from the project.

Due to their disabilities these children require a high level of support, yet are often left wanting due to lack of resources and their parent’s lack of knowledge on how best to support them. Without the support of health professionals and physiotherapists these children are likely to suffer unnecessarily. The correct therapy administered by professionals could alleviate suffering and improve their quality of life.

Sristi Initiated Mobile Therapy Project for enhancing the quality of life of children with disabilities in rural areas by improving and maintaining service with delivery with quality by providing more equitable opportunities and by promoting and protecting their human rights which focuses on enhancing with disabilities and their families, meeting basic needs and ensuring inclusion and participation with combined efforts of people with disabilities, their families and the communities.

Sristi depends on an environment that permits the poor to break out of the cycle of poverty and hopelessness especially people with disabilities. This community-based rehabilitation program will support the holistic development of the children with disabilities.
